Kelly Castriotta, Esq., is Global Executive Underwriting Officer, Cyber, Tech, AI for Markel (NYSE: MKL). Founded in 1930, Markel is a global specialty insurance provider with a truly people-first approach.
Kelly is responsible for leading the global underwriting strategy for cyber, tech and AI risk impacting all lines of business at Markel. With a proven track record of leading global teams and spearheading innovative product development at Markel, Kelly’s mission is to anticipate and assess emerging risks, particularly those related to evolving technologies. She draws on her diverse background to adeptly navigate conversations across various disciplines and communicate a comprehensive vision. Her skillset spans underwriting, emerging technologies, enterprise risk management, product development and litigation.
Kelly is a founding member of Markel’s AI Strategy team, driving initiatives to address the challenges and opportunities posed by generative AI. She also offers her expertise as a Board Advisor for Risk Profiler, a startup specializing in AI-driven risk assessment and mitigation tools. Kelly’s contributions to the field have garnered her much recognition, including her selection as the 2025 Intelligent Insurer “Cyber Mentor of the Year,” her nomination as Zywave’s 2024 “Cyber Person of the Year” and selection as a recipient of the Business Insurance Breakout Award in 2020. She is a sought-after authority on AI and cybersecurity issues and has been quoted in reputable publications such as the New York Times and Reuters, particularly regarding ransomware. Kelly holds a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School, as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Philosophy from Boston College.
